CLASSROOM RULES & POLICIES

   WELCOME TO BIOLOGY

  1. STUDENT CONDUCT and RESPONSIBILITY

  1. Each day, you will be responsible to bring the following to class:

          -  3 Ring Binder (with five (5) labeled dividers) * see next section

          -  BIOLOGY textbook (unless I tell you not to)

          -  Agenda/Assignment Book

          -  Notebook paper (trim the ripped edges if using a spiral notebook)

          -  Pen (blue or black ink ONLY – no other colors are acceptable)

          -  Pencil with an eraser (all lab work MUST be done in pencil)

          -  Highlighter (any color you wish)

NOTE: Calculators, colored pencils/markers, crayons, rulers, scissors, glue will be available in class when needed

  1. Upon arrival to class, sit in your assigned seat and get prepared – take out any assignment(s) due for the day, review your notes, sharpen pencils, etc.  Once class begins, you will NOT be allowed to go to your locker to retrieve items for class. If you were absent, this would be the time to ask me or your tablemates what you missed.

  1. Any items located on or near my desk or my computer, the whiteboards and the display bookcase are OFF LIMITS.  You are not to open any cabinets in the classroom unless instructed to do so. Be alert to safety procedures at all times.

  1. Be respectful to me and your classmates and use good common sense: raise your hand to ask a question, do not use class time to groom yourself or to apply makeup.

  1. Use of cell phones/ electronic devices in class without permission will result in a loss of the item. Use of the Lavatory will be limited to the beginning and the end of the period and on an as-needed emergency basis.

  1. I dismiss the class, NOT THE BELL!!  All lab materials must be returned and lab tables and sinks are to be kept clean and free of trash.  When dismissed, you will carefully push your chairs under the lab table.

  1. CLASSWORK AND HOMEWORK POLICY

  1. My lesson plans, vocabulary lists, due dates for tests/ projects, etc… will be posted on my website at: http://websites.pdesas.org/powellc1

  1. YOU are responsible for doing your OWN assignments. Assignments are listed on the front board when announced and will remain on the board until the due date.  All assignments (except for some labs and class work) are due at the beginning of the next class meeting. If not submitted when due, your assignment is considered LATE and points will be deducted. If you are absent, assignments will be due the day following your return.
  2. Written homework is assigned on an “as needed” basis which means you will not have it every night but you may have to work over a weekend or holiday. One major project will be due each marking period.  These projects are mandatory; failure to complete a major project will greatly affect your grade.

  1.    Make sure that EVERY collected assignment has the following information IN THE UPPER RIGHT HAND CORNER, list in order :

     - Your name

     - Today’s date

     - Your class period

ALSO, make sure to identify the assignment and page numbers

  1. Materials for the current marking period should be kept in a 3 – ring binder beginning with the GRADE RECORD SHEET. Use Tab Dividers for the following sections:

          -  NOTES

          - CLASSWORK/HANDOUTS

          - HOMEWORK

          - LABS / QUIZZES

          - VOCAB FOLDIES

NOTE: It is strongly suggested that you keep work so that you have study material for your Mid Term and Final Exams.

  1. TESTING and GRADING POLICY

Teachers don’t GIVE grades – students EARN them!

  1. TESTS will be announced well in advance.  If you are absent on the testing day, you will be expected to take the test THE DAY YOU RETURN to class, unless other arrangements have been made with me.  QUIZZES may be announced or unannounced (pop quizzes).

  1. Extra Credit may be offered during the marking period -please take advantage of the extra points.  The Due Date for extra credit is strictly enforced.

  1. YOUR CLASS GRADE IS BASED ON TOTAL POINTS EARNED.  Each task has a point value.  Assignments are marked with the number of points earned (top number) out of the total number of points available (bottom number).  Your GRADE RECORD SHEET will help you to keep track of your own grade.

  1. You may contact me at powellc@panthervalley.org

PLEASE REVIEW this paper with a PARENT/ GUARDIAN and then complete the signature sheet.  The slip will be kept on file and indicates that you are aware of my class expectations and grading policy.
