ACT Testing

 

Most colleges and post secondary institutions recognized scores from ACT testing as a form of standarized testing used to evaluate college applicates. Please refer to the admission requirements for each individual college/university to determine policy and minimum score. 

Students interested in taking the ACT testing can register on-line at www.actstudent.org  Students have an option to take the ACT test with the writing component or without.  Students need to review college requirements to determine if the writing section is needed for admissions. 

The ACT tests on 4 sections plus writing;English, Mathematics,Reading and Science. 

The English test has 75 questions to be answered in 45 minutes.  Students will be tested on grammar useage/mechanics and rehtorical skills(strategies, organization,style)

The Math test has 60 questions to be answered in 60 minutes. Students will be tested on Pre-Algebra(23%), Elementary Algebra(17%) Intermediate Algebra (15%), Coordinate Geometry,(15%), Plane Geometry(23%), Trigonometry (7%)

The Reading test has 40 questions to be taken in 30 minutes.  Students will be tested on comphrhension of four different types of reading selections: social studies (25%), Natural Science (25%), Prose Fiction (25%), and Humanities (25%).

The Science test has 40 questions to be taken in 35 minutes. It includes biology, chemistry, physics and Earth and Space Science.  Advanced knowledge is not required, however, basic background covered in general introductory science courses may be needed.  The test emphasized scientific reasoning skills instead of recall on scientific content.
