If your child has trouble reading a word, try this..

1.  Ask your child to check the picture for clues.

2.  Ask your child to reread the sentence.                                                            

3.  Ask your child to reread the sentence and then say the first part of the unknown word.

4.  Encourage your child to look for chunks within the unknown word.

5.  Ask your child...What makes sense?  Do you know a word that starts or ends like this?
