7^th GRADE GENERAL MUSIC SYLLABUS

Congratulations!  You are now a student of 7^th Grade General Music.  Below is a course syllabus and includes information about the grading, the course description, etc.  Please read, sign, and return the bottom portion to Mr. Putorek by Wednesday, November 10th.

 

Course Description: General Music is designed to introduce you to the basics of music theory, cultural music, and basic compositional skills (music writing).  This class should increase your cultural awareness as well as be a creative means for your musical ability.

 

Materials: Students will be given a folder to keep worksheets and handouts in.  Students should also have a pencil on them at all times.

 

Class Rules:  The following class rules have been set forth to maximize efficiency, enjoyment, and productivity:

 

#1 – Students will demonstrate respect for the teacher and fellow classmates.  We will be listening to many types of music in which one student’s opinion may be different from his/her classmates.  Any ridicule or inappropriate comments will be strictly dealt with.

 

#2 – Absolutely NO GUM, FOOD, or DRINKS will be tolerated at any time.

 

#3 – Students will be on time.  Do NOT be late.  If you think you will be late, get a late pass from your previous teacher.  Having a locker issue is NOT an acceptable excuse for being late.

 

#4 – Absolutely NO TALKING will be tolerated at any time.  If you have a question, raise your hand.  Failure to do so will result in disciplinary action.

 

#5 – Be prepared at ALL times.  Bring your folder, a pencil, and your imagination!

 

Consequences:  The following consequences are in place for students that do not follow the class rules or follow the class expectations:

 

1^st offense – Verbal Warning

2^nd offense – 2^nd Verbal Warning

3^rd offense – Phone call home and a school write-up

4^th offense – Parent conference, school write-up, and a lowered 9 weeks grade

5^th or ongoing offense – Parent conference, school write-up, and failing grade for 9 weeks

 

Attendance Policy: Attendance in each class is extremely important.  Therefore, do NOT ask to leave to make-up a test, go to another teacher’s class, etc.  Students absent more then three (3) times in a 9 week period will have a lower 9 week grade.

 

Restroom Policy: Students will only be permitted to use the restroom one time per week unless there is an emergency.  Students will sign out, and a record will be kept by Mr. Putorek.  This rule is in place to keep students out of the hallway and to keep them in class.

 

Grading Policy: The grading policy established by the Glendale Administrative Board will be used in this class.  Check the Student Handbook if you need refreshed on this policy.  Grading will be based on the following:

 

#1 – Attendance

#2 – Compositions/Ear Training

#3 – Homework

#4 – Quizzes/Tests

#5 – In Class Notebook/Class Notes

#6- Attitude and Behavior

 

 

Please cut off and return to Mr. Putorek by Wednesday, November 10th.  This is your first 15 points of the 9 weeks!
