Botany

With the advent of Spring comes life! Our new unit of study is botany. Studying plants at this time of year is so exciting! What we learn about in the classroom can be seen in our yards, gardens, fields and forests. This unit brings a whole new style of learning. We have seeds to germinate and  a greenhouse to raise them in. In fact, students have been collecting data for a couple of weeks to determine the amount of sunlight and temperature trends throughout the school day.

Along with germinating seeds and raising plants, our focus will be to:

• identify plants as unique organisms.
• examine the various plant systems that enable plants to make their own food.
• examine plant reproduction.
• briefly examine plant taxonmy.
