In the Interactive section you are to view the slideshow of Native American artifacts, choose eight images and analyze them. You must find a map of our area showing the native American tribes that lived here, rivers, and lakes. Read Chapters 1-4, then Outline Chapter1, create a web diagram for Chapter 2, a timeline of the Native American battles for Chapter 3, and a concept map for Chapter 4 (use inspiration to generate web and concept map). Writing Assignment “Your Choice: To Go or Stay?”

 

We know that Mary Jemison decided to live with her Indian tribe. What would you do? If you were kidnapped by Native Americans and adopted into an Indian family, would you stay with your Indian family or return to your own culture after years of living with Indians? Write your decision and back it up with three supporting reasons.

 

Make sure your writing includes the following:

 

  • An Introduction: A few sentences that capture the reader’s attention and clearly introduce the topic.
  • A Position Statement: State your decision (to go or stay) and your three supporting reasons.
  • Three Supporting Reasons: These are reasons why you decided to go or stay. Make sure you think about what it would be like to live in other culture for years and what it would be like to return to your own culture.
    • Elaboration of Supporting Reasons: This is a further explanation of each reason. You can use specific examples to make your reason clear and convincing to the reader. (Bonus: You can show the reader you have thought through this question by mentioning the choice you did not take and why this was not the best choice for you.)
  • Conclusion: Restate your main points (supporting reasons) and your position. Leave the reader with a final thought.

Syllabus:  2011-2012 School Term

Mr. DAMIAN

Course Description: 

This course is designed to give the students an opportunity to study the historical events and people that were vital in shaping our area. An emphasis will be placed on our local geography, economic systems, culture, and government from early settlers to the present. We will also incorporate the significance of our area to the development of theUnited Statesthroughout history.

 

Student Objectives:

  • Students will use primary source documents to understand the significance of the people who lived in our area and their contributions to the development of theUnited States.
  • Students will analyze and evaluate the influence our area has had onUnited Stateshistory.

 

Grading:

 Student grading will come in various forms of assessment including but not limited to:

  1. Tests = 35%
  2. Quizzes = 30%
  3. In-class assignments = 15%
  4. Homework assignments = 20%
  5. Group/Individual projects (will be counted as a quiz or test grade)
  6. Classroom participation (will be counted as a HW assignment or in-class assignment)

 

Student grades will be calculated through a system of percentages.

 

 

Attendance: 

All students are expected to be present in my class on time.  Students are also responsible for making up missed assignments in a timely manner. Assignments may be handed in late but points will be deducted. If a student misses a test, he/she will have no more than THREE school days to complete the test before a ZERO is given.
