Frequently Asked Questions: This page contains answers to common questions of students and parents.

What are the rules for Hopewell Elementary?

Hopewell Elementary has recently created the VIK 200 Club, a
program that recognizes positive choices that students make in
all facets of their school day.  The rules are as follows:

     ~ V = Visibly and Verbally Show Respect
     ~ I = I Am Responsible
     ~ K = Keep It Safe

Students who are "caught" showing VIK behavior are given a gold
VIK 200 Club slip.  They record their name in the superstar book,
are given a small reward, and receive a happy phone call home.
The student also draws a random number and places his/her gold
ticket on the VIK 200 Club honor board.  When 10 tickets in a row
are found on the board, those students receive a special mystery
prize.  The board is then cleared, and the fun begins again!

What are Mrs. Marchionda's classroom rules?

1.  Always come to school prepared.
2.  Respect others at all times.
3.  Follow directions the first time.
4.  Listen when others speak.
5.  Raise your hand to speak.

What are the discipline procedures?

I use a checkmark system.  Checkmarks are given for being
unprepared, missing or incomplete homework, inattentiveness, rule
breaking, etc.  Each checkmark results in 5 minutes of lost
recess.  5 or more checkmarks in one week results in additional
time lost and a call home.

How do we use the planners?

Students will record all homework in the planners.  Parents must
sign/initial planners each evening.  Parents may write notes in
the planners.  I check them each morning, and may send a note
home in the planner.

Are there any Accelerated Reader point requirements for 4th grade?

Students will be required to earn 5 Accelerated Reader points for
each of the 1st and the 2nd nine weeks.  Students will be required to
earn 8 Accelerated Reader points for each of the 3rd and 4th nine weeks.
AR points count as a grade for both Reading and Library.  Extra points earned
in a nine week period do not carry over to the next nine week requirement.

How may I contact Mrs. Marchionda?

You may call the school (724-375-6691, x 1209) anytime after 3:25
or from 9:05-9:45 on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and
Fridays.  You may also email me at marchiondaj@hopewell.k12.pa.us
or from the link on this web page.  I can check my email
throughout the day, so this is the best way to contact me.

How do I find out about homework assignments?

I will post a link on the Homework section of this web page with
a tentative homework schedule.  This is subject to change, so
please check the planner for a more accurate account of
assignments.

Are snacks allowed in the classroom?

HEALTHY snacks are permitted in school.  Students must provide
their own snacks, if desired.  I also permit students to have
water (only) bottles during warm weather months.  Sport tops are
required to avoid spills.

How long are the grading periods?

The grading periods are 9 weeks.  The end of the grading periods
are noted on the school calendars.  Report cards come home 1 week
after the end of the grading period.

What is the grading scale?

A = 93% - 100%
B = 83% - 92%
C = 70% - 82%
D = 60% - 69%
E = 59% and under

Is there a policy on cell phones?

Students are to keep any cell phones OFF (not on vibrate) and in
their backpacks at ALL times (not in pockets).  If cell phones
are being used in school, they will be taken from the student.
Any confiscated cell phone will be in the office and must be
picked up by a parent.
