Welcome Parents and Students,

As you may know by now, my name is Ms. Grandy. I received my Bachelor of Arts  in English from Dickinson College. I will receive my Master of Science degree in Secondary Education from Drexel university in the spring of 2012.

I am passionate of about literature and learning. I want students to not only relate what we read to their lives, but also toward their future experiences as college students. I am diligent about promoting self-motivation, metacognition, and knowing when to ask for help. Students will be given various assignments to assess their comprehension of the material covered. Please be sure to encourage your student to complete all assignments and assessments. Tutoring is available on Monday and Wednesday after school and small group tutoring is available during lunch time.

My favorite book is "Their Eyes Were Watching God" by Zora Neale Hurston. I love the author and look forward to sharing her work with the class this school year. I also plan to read "Things Fall Apart" by Chinua Achebe, "A Lesson Before Dying" by Ernest Gaines, and "The Taming of the Shrew" by William Shakespeare. This is just a sample of the literature we will cover. Many students have also asked to participate  in creative writing (poetry and short story writing) and I plan to accommodate their request later in the year.
