Learning Objectives: The main learning objective of Integrated Algebra 2 is to build upon the foundations of Algebra 1 in order to achieve a higher level of understanding of the algebraic concepts. We will cover the following concepts throughout the school year in preparation for the Keystone Algebra 1 Exam retake in January. In addition to these topics below from our textbook, Keystone Standardized Test Prep materials will be used as an additional resource. Students will be expected to become proficient in the aspects of these topics in order to attain proficiency or better on the PA Keystone Algebra Exam, which is a graduation requirement for the Class of 2021 and beyond.

  1. Expressions, Equations, and Inequalities
  2. Functions, Equations, and Graphs
  3. Linear and Nonlinear Functions
  4. Slope, Point Slope, Standard, and Slope-Intercept forms of Lines
  5. Linear Systems
  6. Quadratic Functions and Equations
  7. Polynomials and Polynomial Functions

Classroom Expectations: 

  1. Be On-time. All students are expected to be on-time to class. Any student entering the classroom after the late bell rings will be marked tardy.
  2. Be Prepared. Every student upon entering the classroom is expected to have their notebook, textbook, calculator (see below) and pencil out on their desk.
  3. Be Respectful: Follow all classroom directions and be respectful to peers. We have no problem allowing down time once all work is completed for the day.
  4. All other school policies apply.

Calculators:

**There will always be calculators to use during class time provided by the school**

A scientific calculator is encouraged (TI 30 or higher) for all coursework. There will be times throughout the semester that a scientific calculator will be needed to complete home practice. If you do not have a calculator at home, it will be your responsibility to come to our class to borrow a  calculator and complete the home practice assignment.

 

 

 Absence(s)/Late Work:

You are responsible for making up any work missed due to an absence or excused school events/field trips.

  • Our absent work policy is fairly simple. If you are absent for 3 or less consecutive days, you will have until the end of the next Day 2 enrichment to hand in all missed work. If you return to school on a Day 2, you will have until the next one the following week to turn in work.
  • If you are onlyabsent the day of a quiz or test you will take the quiz or test the next day.
  • If you are absent during the review days for a quiz or test, you will still be expected to take the quiz or test on the scheduled day, as long as the quiz/test was announced prior to you being absent.
    • Example: On Monday, Mr. Brennan and Mr. Knoll announce that there is a Test on Thursday. If you are present on Monday and Tuesday, but absent on Wednesday, the day before the test, you will still be expected to take the test on Thursday.
  • LATE WORK
    • Forgetting an assignment happens to all of us from time to time. If you forget to hand in an assignment, you can hand it in to me the next day with a 5 point late penalty. If you do not hand it in the next day for -5, you have until the next Day 3 enrichment to hand it in for 50% credit. After this point, it becomes a zero. 

Home Practice/Class Practice:

Home practice will be assigned frequently. Home practice will be graded on both completeness and accuracy. The first home practice/classwork assignment of each lesson will often on completeness and effort, while once a topic has been covered for a few days, the subsequent assignments will be measured on accuracy.

Grades:

Grades will be determined by dividing the number the total points earned for the marking period by the number of total points available.

  • Tests – will range from 100-200 points
  • Projects – will be assigned periodically and will be worth anywhere from 50-200 points
  • Quizzes – will be anywhere from 50 to 125 points based on the size of the assessment
  • Home Practice – 10-20 points each
  • In class worksheets- 10-20 points each
  • Math XL Computer Assignments—15-30 points
    • During each chapter, students will be assigned work on www.mathxlforschool.com, these assignments will be able to be completed both during class time and at home. Extra Credit will also be available on the website throughout the year.
  • Warm Up/Closure Activities – At the beginning of class, students will be given warm up activities. Students will also be given an end of class “essential question” to complete before leaving class for the day. These will be graded at the end of each week ranging from 10-20 points. Failure to complete these can have a detrimental effect on your grade.

 

Cell Phone Policy

  • Every teacher in the building has their own cell phone policy. The rules of our classroom do not apply to other teachers, just as theirs do not apply to me
    • #1: No photos or videos are to be taken in this room. This INCLUDES Snapchat/Instagram/Facebook Messenger. There are other ways to communicate with your friends. Text only messages are okay in 2018.
    • #2: Absolutely NO PHONE CALLS!
    • #3: During all lessons, phones are to be kept in a designated area, turned on silent. Once we are done teaching, you may get your phone to listen to music while working if  we give permission.
    • #4: When you are using your phone for music purposes, the sound is to be through headphones/earbuds only. If it becomes too loud, we will give you a warning, but if we need to address it again, you will lose the privilege for the day.
    • #5: Everyone needs to use their phone at some point. If your parents need to get in touch with you that desperately for an emergency, they should be calling the school office at 610-826-3155.
