The Second Step program focuses on three areas:

• Empathy Training - Focuses on identifying their own feelings and feelings of others. When learning empathy, students are encouraged to take others' perspectives and respond with empathy.
• Impulse Control and Problem Solving - This unit focuses on calming down and problem solving. Social skills are discussed along with the importance of not going with one's first impulse, but to think through a problem.
• Anger Management - We all have many feelings, with anger being one of them. Students learn to recognize these feelings and learn what to do when they are angry.

Each grade level receives lessons in these three areas through their classroom guidance lessons.
