Research Paper about an American Author

For this paper, you must choose an American author. Possibilities include any writer, living or dead,
poet, dramatists, essayists, novelists, fiction, or non-fiction.  Do not choose anyone unless you are sure that there is enough research available for you to use for support.

Write a paper of at least four pages, double spaced, that follow these guidelines:

• Do not just write about the author’s life and works. Present a thesis which narrows your subject down to a single idea.
• Your thesis may not be a question. It should be the answer to a question.
• Two or more students from the same class may research the same author; however, their theses must not be identical.
• Your paper should be a careful blending of direct quotations, paraphrasing, and summary from legitimate sources. Direct quotations should not be more than 15% of your paper.
• The style guide for this assignment is MLA, 8^th revision.

In your paper, you must cite at least three different sources. Your sources may include articles from newspapers, magazines, academic journals and reliable websites, but only one .com may be used.  You may not use Wikipedia.
