Olweus Program at Mahanoy Area Elementary School

As of February 28th, 2013 Mahanoy Area Elementary School kickoff the start of implementing the Olweus Bullying Prevention Program. Our school is joining hundreds of schools around the country and throughout the world that are taking action to stop and prevent bullying.  The Olweus Bullying Prevention Program is the leading research-based program that has been shown to reduce bullying and make schools safer, happier places for students to learn and grow. In addition to the kickoff we held our first class meetings.  The feedback from the class meetings was positive. We will continue to have our class meetings each Wednesday. In these class meetings students will discuss the topic of bullying in addition to other topics.

We are excited about this new program and we hope each one of you will join us in the fight to stopping bullying in our community. If you are interested in joining in this fight we as a Bullying Prevention Coordinating Committee would love to have you as a member of our team. Currently our committee is made up of mostly teachers and faculty at Mahanoy Elementary School. We would welcome any parents or members from the community to be part of the team. If you are interested you can contact Mrs. Yarnitsky at 570-773-3443 ext 4021 or email her at hyarnitsky@mabears.net. Our committee usually meets at 7:30am on the second and fourth Day 6 in each month. Currently we have not scheduled our next meeting, please check back for future dates and times of our next meeting.
