Keyboarding & Computer Applications

6th Grade Keyboarding

6th Grade Keyboarding

36 Day Cycle - 1 period

In 6th grade, students concentrate on learning Keyboarding.  The Microtype Multimedia program is used to guide student learning and progress in keyboarding.  Students complete lessons in Alphabetic Keyboarding and are assessed on their speed and most importantly, accuracy.  They are also evaluated on Class Participation and Technique.  Technique when keying is very important.  Students must:  sit up straight, raise wrists (keeping arms parallel to the floor), feet flat on the floor and keep eyes on the monitor.  To avoid peeking, students must use a keyboard cover.  Students work at their own pace while keeping up with certain time tables.  They are given clear set goals and challenged on a daily basis.

Keyboarding is an ongoing unit of study throughout Middle School.  Any student not efficient in Keyboarding by the end of their 8th grade year will be expected to repeat Keyboarding in High School.  Extra help is offered during 9th period for any student in need of extra time to work on assignments.
