Keyboarding & Computer Applications

7th Grade Keyboarding & Computer Applications

Keyboarding Practice

30 Day Cycle - 2 Periods

Students in 7th grade will be continuing to refine their keyboarding skills.  Every week they will be testing on speed and accuracy by taking a Timed Writing.  For exta keyboarding practice at home, click on the link above entitled Keyboarding Practice.

This year computer applications will also be incorporated into this course.  Students will be learning wordprocessing and graphics skills through a program called Real Journeys.  In this unit, students will complete several wordprocessing projects for submission to a technology convention.  They will be investigating the nature of innovation and the process of invention.  This real-life simulation gives students the skills necessary to complete basic wordprocessing assignments on their own.

Students learn these basic wordprocessing skills:

  • enter & delete text
  • change font, size, and style of text
  • adjust line spacing
  • add headers and footers
  • set and use tabs
  • use Spell Check function
  • insert Clipart
  • use tools to create shapes & lines
  • manipulate objects
  • apply colors, gradients & patterns

In addition, students will use the Internet to conduct research to further expand their understanding of inventions, the creative process and Internet safety.
