Dear Parents/Guardians,

          Summer is a great time of year for everyone to sit back and relax and take a breather from all of the demands of the school year.  However, over the three months of being away from school something occurs called the SUMMER SLIDE!  MOST STUDENTS LOSE ABOUT 2 MONTHS OF GRADE LEVEL SKILLS OVER THE SUMMER! I am sending out a request that you have your child read a few minutes each day to avoid that SUMMER SLIDE.  Make the reading time fun by reading outside, in the car, or at the beach.  The ideas are endless!

Also, I recently asked your child to read a list of sight words, also known as high frequency words.  These words your child is expected to read quickly and correctly.   The attached sheets show the words that were known and unknown.  The unknown words are highlighted.  Please practice these unknowns and as well as the known words over the summer.  Taking a few minutes a day to practice a row or two of words will make the biggest difference when we return in the fall.

          I WILL ASK YOUR CHILD TO READ THESE WORDS AGAIN WHEN THEY RETURN IN THE FALL AND IF YOUR CHILD CAN READ MORE THAN WHEN HE/ SHE LEFT SCHOOL, HE/SHE WILL RECEIVE A PRIZE !
