Classroom Expectations and Policies

In order to be successful it is important to know what is expected of you.

Following you will find my  classroom expectations, grading policy and procedure, as well as my testing policy.  I want both my parents and students to be aware of all guidelines to ensure smooth transition through the year.

Classroom Expectations:

  • Be prepared.  You should have your textbook, notebook, and writing utensil out and ready at the beginning of class.
  • Report to class on time.
  • Classroom courtesy is to be observed at all times!  Respect is to be shown to the teacher, as well as to your classmates.  Listen to what others ask or have to say.  Don’t be afraid to ask questions!!
  • Hall passes will be issued before class begins or after the lesson has been completed.  Exceptions will be made in the case of an emergency.
  • No obscenities – of any kind – will be tolerated!
  • Cheating will result in a zero for that assignment.
  • All graded work should be completed in pencil.

Discipline Policy:

  • Each student will be given a verbal warning.
  • Continued offenses will result in disciplinary action.
  • Serious offenses will result in immediate action.

Grading Policy:

Grades will be based on homework, quiz, and test points.

Nine weeks grades will be determined by the following formula:

Percentage = Points Earned ÷ Total Points Possible

Homework Policy:

  • Daily assignments will be an integral part of your learning.  Homework assignments will be collected periodically and graded on a 4 point scale.  You must have ATTEMPTED EVERY PROBLEM to receive full credit.  Points are based on your effort in completing the assignment.  This is your opportunity to ask questions and make sure that you are on the right track.
  • Assignments should be neat and organized.  Write the date, page number and problem numbers assigned at the top of each paper.
  • Work must be shown to earn full credit for the assignment.
  • If you miss class, for any reason, it is your responsibility to obtain any make-up work on the day you return.

The previous day’s assignment is due upon your return to school.

You will have the same number of days to complete make-up assignments as you were absent.
For example, if you miss Mon & Tues, make-up work is due on Fri.

  • Late assignments will be accepted, for half credit, on the following school day.

Testing Policy:

  • Tests will be announced several days in advance.  Students will be given an in-class review and will have ample time to prepare.
  • Frequent quizzes will be administered.  They will usually be announced one day in advance.
  • A pencil must be used to complete all quizzes and tests.
  • Students’ desks are to be cleared, except for the test and a pencil (unless otherwise instructed).
  • No talking will be permitted during a test.  If you have a question, raise your hand to be acknowledged.
  • If you miss a test, it is your responsibility to schedule a date to take the test.
  • Cheating will result in a zero and a detention.
  • No talking will be permitted during a test.  If you have a question, raise your hand to be acknowledged.
  • If you miss a test, it is your responsibility to schedule a date to take the test.
  • Cheating will result in a zero and a detention.

If you have any questions or concerns about any of the policies or procedures please feel free to contact me.  I want to ensure open communication and cooperation.
