Classroom Expectations

Welcome to Introduction to Computers!  In this course, you will be learning the fundamentals of using a computer, proper typing and posture technique, and how to interact with various documents on our computers.  These will be valuable skills to take with you for the rest of your lives!  It is very important that you listen to instructions and directions very carefully because the majority of the assignments will depend on it.  Most classes will begin with some sort of demonstration (by me, or possibly you) and a review of what was learned in previous lessons.  You can also find assignment information on my teacher website.  Here is a list of topics we will be covering:

  • Keyboarding Technique
  • Skill and Speed Training on the Keyboard
  • Memos, Letters, and Emails
  • Formatting Documents in Microsoft Word
  • Proper Research Paper Layout
  • Table Creation
  • Using PowerPoint

Grading System:  Your grade will be based on four major categories.

 

1.  Technique - 5,3, or 1 point(s) each day for the following:

  • Sitting up straight
  • Both feet on floor
  • Wrists straight/up
  • Eyes on copy
  • Correct path for fingers
2.  Accuracy - Spelling and grammar 
 
 
3.  Format- follow the layout/project instructions; paper format rules applied
 

4.  Quizzes/Projects/Tests 

*Participation/Behavior is based on the following: Works quietly and productively, follows classroom rules and technology policy, respects peers/teachers, listens and follows directions, hands in assignments on time.

 

It is also very important that you follow the classroom rules.  These rules are for everyone’s safety and will help make a better learning environment for everyone. 

 

PLEASE DON’T:

 

1.  Yell out in class (simply raise your hand if you know the answer or have a comment).

2.  Walk around the room (please ask before getting up).

3.  Abuse any of the equipment in the room. Know our technology policy for PASD.

4.  Cheat or steal other's work.  This will be automatic failing grades for students involved.

5.  Play games during class times.  Also, only visit appropriate websites.  This includes: NO .FACEBOOK, TWITTER, INSTAGRAM, SOCIAL NETWORKING, ETC. - IPODS, YOUTUBE, GAMES WITH GUNS/SHOOTING - BACKGROUNDS THAT SHOW NUDITY OR OBSCENE IMAGES, POLITICAL VIEWS, VIOLENCE OR GANG SYMBOLS, OR DRUG/DRUG RELATED IMAGES.

Overall, this class should serve as a great learning experience that you can take with you for the rest of your life.  Please pay attention to deadlines, treat others and the teacher with respect.  When you work to the best of your ability, this class will be a great experience for everyone!  Feel free to contact me with any problems or questions about what is being taught or an assignment that was given.
