Library Procedures

1. Students in kindergarten will be able to check out one book per library class as long as they have returned their book from the previous class.

2. Students in grades one through six will be able to check out two books per library class as long as they have returned their books from the previous class. On occasion, students may be allowed to take three books.

3. Sixth grade students will have access to the young adult (YA) books in the library. These books may contain  some mature content and/or language. If you are not comfortable with your child checking these books out, please contact me. Fifth graders may check out YA books with a permission slip.

4. Please encourage your child to take care of his/her library books while they are checked out. Please keep library books away from food, drinks, pets, and little hands. I encourage all students to keep their library books in their backpack unless they are reading them. This year, I will be providing kindergarten students with a library ‘book bag’, which is a plastic bag to keep their library books in while they are in their backpack. Students in grades one through six may want to consider keeping their library books in a plastic bag in their backpacks as well. Most often, books are damaged when water spills on them while in backpacks. If you notice that a book is damaged, please have your child report it to me at his/her next library class, or you may write a note or e-mail if you wish.

5. If a library book is lost or damaged, you may be charged the price of the book. If a student loses or damages books on more than one occasion, I may request that his/her library books remain at school in his/her desk.

6. If your child forgets his/her library book, or is absent on library day, he/she may exchange books between 8:20 – 8:40 on days 1, 2, or 5. If I am absent on your child’s library day, they will not receive new books.

7. ENJOY! Reading with your child is one of the best things that you can do to help him/her become a successful learner.
