COURSE DESCRIPTION:

Honors Psychology provides the student at PVHS with the opportunity to study the field of psychology, including its history, theories and important figures in the field. The course will focus primarily on the development of the human personality; and analyze the different schools of psychological thought.

 

TEXTBOOK:

“Invitation to Psychology” Fourth Edition by Carol Wade and Carol Tavris

Students are responsible for the condition of their assigned textbook

 

STUDENT OBJECTIVES:

  • Identify important figures in the field of psychology and analyze their respective theories on human behavior and personality development.
  • Identify and analyze the different schools of psychological thought.
  • Understand the development of the human personality.
  • Understand how psychology is related to social problems and change.
  • Identify psychological disorders and their treatments.
  • Identify the factors within society that affect behavior and personality development of individuals. 

 

GRADING:

Grading for each marking period is based on a system using total points.  This system allows for all assignments (i.e. tests, quizzes, homework, projects) to be weighted equally in determining the students overall average per marking period.  Points per assignment will be determined by the instructor. Late assignments without a excused absence will not be accepted. As an example of how this grading system works see the following example:

 

            Marking Period 1:

                        Homework Total Possible Points = 500

                        Test/Quizzes Total Possible Points =300

                        Projects Total Possible Points = 200

            Marking Period 1 Total Possible Points = 1000

            Student Points Earned = 800/1000

            Student Average for Marking Period 1 = 80%

 

MAKE-UP ASSIGNMENTS/TESTS and QUIZZES:

Any work missed by the student due to excused absences must be completed within five days of returning to class.  It is the responsibility of the student to obtain and complete this work within the five day period or a zero will be received for the assignment/test or quiz.  Late assignments will not be accepted. Assignments given during each chapter will be available to the student in the make-up files located in the classroom.  Students must schedule to take any tests and/or quizzes with the instructor following their assigned class period.       

 

 

CLASS REQUIREMENTS AND RULES:

  • Class attendance with textbook, notebook and pen or pencil.
  • Assignments must be completed on time.
  • NO food or drink is allowed in class
  • Be on time and prepared for class
  • Raise your hand to be recognized
  • BE RESPECTFUL
