Contemporary Novel

Course Synopsis: This course is going to focus on a selection of current novels. The novel selection is based upon popular, thought provoking, and controversial tales.  Throughout this course, students are going to analyze, discuss, and read five novels. While reading each of these novels, students will engage in oral class discussion as well as continuous journal or web blogging. A complete character analysis, theme breakdown, and discussion on relevant issues to our society will be pursued through the class readings. Literary circles, projects, and research will supplement the reading of each novel.

Grading:

Students will be held responsible for reading each assignment.

Students will be ready to discuss and analyze the themes, plot, structure, characters, and issues found in all books.

Students will complete journal activities.

Students will complete projects and technology assignments.  

Students will complete daily homework assignments.
