Dear Parents,

          HOOT HOOT HOORAY!!!  Support the OWL Reading Campaign each day!  Each month we will track the number of minutes that the children read at home. 

Your child can earn special rewards just for reading at home and completing their reading log with you.  Your child’s monthly reading goal will be written at the top of the reading log that will come home in your child’s folder each month.   This month’s goal is 400 minutes/student.  (This works out to be about 20 minutes a night/5 nights a week.)

Return the reading log by the specified date and your child can choose a reward from the class “Reward Catalog.”  Some examples of rewards are:  bring a stuffed animal to school for the day, eat lunch with a teacher, switch your desk spot for a day and other great rewards!

          Each month we will have a special day at school to support reading.  We will read a special book and give the students an extended time to share books with their classmates.  This will happen in the middle of the month.  Your child’s teacher will send a reminder when this is going to happen each month.

          We will also be working together as a class to earn a “Read and Watch” Party.  Our class has set a goal of 20,000 minutes read.  When we reach that goal as a class, we will enjoy some popcorn while we watch the movie version of a book that we have read recently.  We will share the ways that the book and the movie are the same and different.  There will be a bulletin board in the MPR to show the different classes’ progress towards their goal.
