*Read 150 Steps By the End of Each Marking Period*

Please read with your child each night for 2 steps. 15 minutes equals one step, which means your child will have to read for a half-an-hour. If your child does not read at home, they will have to read at recess for a step.  The goal is for each child to read 100 steps a marking period, which means by the end of the 4th marking period they should have 600 steps.

Also review their skills card with them to get acquainted with sight words and building comprehension skills. Here are some helpful tips your child can use if they have trouble reading their book.

Reading Tips:

  • Check the picture
  • Reread
  • Reread and say the first part of the word
  • Look for chunks
  • Think! What makes sense? Do you know a word that starts or ends like this?
