Archery In The Schools

The 5th and 6th grades have participated in the National Archery in the Schools Program (NASP). Archery is an activity that people of all walks of life and almost every size and ability can participate in. During the classes the students learn proper safety and handling of the bows also proper shooting skills. Archery's safety record is exemplary. It is almost unheard of for a person to injure oneself or another person while shooting a bow and arrow.  The students have really come to enjoy the activity. They realize that it doesn't matter what their athletic ability is, with archery it is about patients and concistancy Laughingthat improves their own shooting skills. This year (2013) we have encorporated an archery tournament into the classes.  The students are on teams and each of the students' totals are added together for the teams weekly score. As I have seen the students that didn't have good aim at first and are now showing improvement, are the same students that are making a difference in their teams total score. This makes them feel pretty good that they have helped the team.  If any of the students get an arrow in the gold area of the target they get their picture taken and it is displayed on my buttiton boaerd outside the gym.  The students are proud of their accomplishments and always stopping to look at their pictures. Smile I have placed a number of pictures showing the students engaged in the activity.
