Planning to Learn

Port Allegany Elementary School is a school-wide Title I school.  What this means is that any resources acquired through the Title I program can be used for the education of any student in the Elementary building.  In the past, the monies could only be used for students identified for targeted academic assistance.  This is a wonderful change in protocol because it means that highly experienced teachers and paraprofessionals can help any student who might need a little extra help or practice in a specific area or broad area of reading or math.

Currently, there are two Title I teachers working                           in Reading and Math to help the students of PAES attain greater academic achievement.  I, Mrs. DeGolier, work primarily with the lower grades, K-2 in Reading and/or Math.

Although there are some occasions when children are pulled out of their classroom for practice with a specific skill, the program is mostly a "push-in" type program where I work in the classrooms with small groups of children.  Almost all of the students with whom I work are practicing in the same books and working with the same skills as their peers.

I love working with your children and encourage you to contact me with any questions or concerns.
