Syllabus

Assessment:

Grading is based on a point system. The student’s number of points achieved is divided by the total number of possible points will determine a percentage each marking period. Points will be earned through homework, quizzes, tests, and projects.

Classroom Rules:

  1. Be On-Time. Every student is expected to be on-time to class. Everyone is expected to be in their seat when the bell rings.
  2. Show respect to all people and property.
  3. Be appropriate.
  4. Prepared. Every student upon entering the classroom is expected to have their notebook and a sharpened pencil. Textbook will be individually assigned to students but will be kept at their desk
  5. Dismissal. Wait for instructor to dismiss you.
  6. Restroom. Not in the first ten or last ten minutes.
  7. Desks. Keep your desk and the area around your desk neat and clean.
  8. No Cell Phone.
  9. All other school policies apply.

Absence Responsibility:

In case of absence, it is the responsibility of the student to make-up ALL missed work.

  • The student will be given 2 days to make-up missed work when absent 1 day.
  • The student will be given 1 week to make up missed work when absent 2 or more days in a row.
  • If the student is absent the day of a quiz or test, the student will take the quiz or test the next school day that they return.

Calculators:

Each student will have a TI-30 calculator assigned to them for classroom use. Students are responsible for damaging and losing the calculators. Use at your own risk.

Homework:

Homework will be assigned frequently. Majority of homework assignment will be worth 5 points. Homework must be completed/attempted to receive full credit. If more than half of the homework is completed the student will receive half the credit. If half of less than half of the homework is completed/attempted the student will receive zero points. Please note you need to show all of your work to receive points.

Algebra is a course that reinforces fundamental middle grade topics and provides comprehensive coverage of new algebraic concepts.  Each lesson will include problems that require critical thinking and written explanations.  Projects and activities will afford students a hands-on approach to learning and help to develop organizational skills and logical reasoning.  The course draws on students' prior knowledge and relates math to their everyday lives.

The purpose of this course is to provide a solid preparation for algebra and geometry.  There is an emphasis on mastery of basic skills, developing algebraic thinking, and making connections to geometry concepts.  Each lesson will contain problems that require critical thinking and written explanations.  Projects and activities will afford students a hands-on approach to learning and help to develop organizational skills and logical reasoning.  The course draws on students' prior knowledge and relates math to everyday lives.
