Health/P.E. Curriculum

Health is 2nd and 3rd quarter for grades 6.7.8. 

 

6th Grade Health -

The Human Body - Digestive system, respiratory system, nervous system, circulatory system, reproductive system

Smoking - Dangers

 

7th Grade Health -

Nutrition - Carbs, fats, proteins, vitamins, minerals, water, reading food labels

CPR - Hands only

Disease - Cancer, Heart Disease, Diabetes

 

8th Grade Health -

Stress Management - Techniques

CPR - Hands Only

Sexual Education - Waiver needed

Drug Education - Covering most categories of drugs and their dangers. 

 

P.E. Classes greatly depend on weather and availability of gym.

 

K-2 P.E. -

Standards - 10.1.4.A - Identify and engage in physical activities that promote physical fitness and health.

10.5.3.A - Recognize and use basic movement skills and concepts.
• locomotor movements (e.g., run,
leap, hop)
• non-locomotor movements (e.g.,
bend, stretch, twist)
• manipulative movements (e.g.,
throw, catch, kick)
• relationships (e.g., over, under,

Spatial Awareness Games - Tag games that require student to move in space and focus on motor coordination and movement.

Ex - King kong Tag, Shark Attack Tag, Cats in Corner

Throwing and Catching - Games that emphasize throwing and catching

Benchball, Alaskan Baseball, Bombardment, GAGA Ball, Soccer

Physical Fitness testing - Alligned with presidential physical fitness tests.

3-5 P.E.-

Standards - 10.5.6.C - Describe and apply the principles of exercise to the components of healthrelated and skill-related fitness.

10.5.6.F - Identify and apply game strategies to basic games and physical activities.

Strategy development - Play and discuss ways to imrove chances if improving and winning. 

Soccer, Football, Benchball, Bombardment, Volleyball, Nukem, Spud, Capture Flag

Physical Fitness - Tests and discussions designed around the skill related fitness categories.

6-8 P.E. -

Standards - 10.5.9.A - Analyze and engage in physical activities that are developmentally/ individually appropriate and support achievement of personal fitness and activity goals.

10.5.9.D - Analyze factors that affect physical activity preferences of adolescents.

Sport skill development - We try a variety of sports and work on unique skills invloved in each.  Sports depend on weather and availability of space.
