PREREQUISITE:         Successful completion of Algebra I or its equivalent with teacher recommendation

 

The purpose of the course is to develop the geometric relationships and deductive strategies that can be used to solve a variety of real-world and mathematical problems.  The content will include, but not be limited to, the following:

  • Terminology and fundamental properties of geometry
  • Deductive and inductive reasoning and their application to formal and informal proof
  • Formulas pertaining to the measurement of plane and solid figures
  • Coordinate geometry and transformations on the coordinate plane
  • Exploration and application of geometric relationships such as parallelism, perpendicularity, congruence, and similarity
  • Properties of circles
  • Right triangle trigonometry

 

To ensure that the school year will be as successful as possible, the following guidelines have been developed and will be enforced throughout the year.

 

Grading:      

                                            A: 100 – 92, B: 91 – 83, C: 82 – 76, D: 75 – 70, F: 69 – 0

 

  1. Preparation:  Students must bring the following materials with them everyday:
    1. Your covered textbook, when required
    2. Sharpened pencils with eraser
    3. Two different colored pens (any color) and a highlighter
    4. A loose-leaf binder (recommended) OR notebook with folder (for handouts)
    5. A (TI-30xa) calculator (non-graphing)

**Students must come to class with these materials and will not be permitted to go to their locker after class has started to get them.

 

  1. II.                Classroom Procedures:
  • Food, drinks, and gum are NOT allowed in the classroom.
  • Restrooms are to be used before and after class only. 
  • All math work is to be completed in pencil
  • Do not leave paper or trash on the floor or under your desk. 
  • Do not write on the walls or desks.
  • No CD players, cell phones, playing cards, or non-academic items are allowed in class.
  • Hats are not permitted in class
  • The school dress code will be enforced.
  • Failure to comply with these policies may result in detention, parent conference and/or referral to Administration.

 

  1. III.             Homework:
  • No credit will be given for late assignments, except for an excused absence.
  • Students in ISS are expected to complete the work for that day, as usual. All work for the class missed should be completed in ISS and the homework due for that day should be handed to the ISS instructor.  NO EXCEPTIONS!!
  • Always show work  NO WORK = NO CREDIT
  • Assignments will be graded as follows:

        Complete assignment (10 points)

        At least half the assignment (5 points)

        Less than half the assignment (0 points)

 

 

  1. IV.              Absence/ Make-up Work Policy:
  • It is your responsibility to obtain assignments when absent.  The amount of time allowed for make up is equal to the amount of class time missed.
  • School/ Athletic-Related Absences: You are responsible for any work missed.  This includes notes, homework and tests.  All work is due upon your return.
