PREREQUISITE:         Successful completion of Pre-Algebra or its equivalent with teacher recommendation

Objective: Students will successfully master the concepts discussed throughout the school year, according to the Pennsylvania State Standards and as a pre-requisite for the Algebra 1B course.

Course Description: Algebra 1A continues with the basic algebra concepts and connections you began to explore in Pre-Algebra.  This course is designed to be challenging, yet is paced with the success of students in mind. This year you will take the first half of the entire course work for Algebra 1, which will help prepare you for success on the Keystone Algebra 1 Exam and the
PSSA.  Next year, as a 9th grader, you will complete the second half of the Algebra 1 coursework, entitled Algebra 1B.  The purpose of this course is to develop a strong foundation of algebraic concepts and processes that will be used to solve a variety of real-world problems, as well as more complex situations.  Algebra 1 is a gateway class for all higher-level math courses and is a state graduation requirement. Materials not covered in Algebra 1A in 8th grade will be addressed in the 9th grade Algebra 1B course.

To ensure that the school year will be as successful as possible, the following guidelines have been developed and will be enforced throughout the year.
