5th grade science includes a variety of topics throughout the year including, but not limited to: Ecology, Water, Earth Science, Engineering Technology, Life Science, and Physical Science.
Some of the special projects/activities we use to give the students a better understanding of the content may include:
- making a paper roller coaster to learn more about the forces of motion, the design process, teamwork, and the importance of clear communication, among other things.
- creating an electromagnet
- creating a vehicle that can protect an egg in a crash, or travel the farthest distance
- creating an interactive food web & exploring what will happen if something happens to one part of the web
- doing research and presenting to the class about a topic that interests the student
- researching the life cycle of an organism and writing a picture book to demonstrate their findings to a younger grade
- attending a three day science camp at the Chincoteague Bay Field Station, Wallops Island, Virginia
- Visiting the Wallops Island NASA station
- and many more.
