Peer Tutors

Towamensing Peer Tutoring Program

Who can be a tutor?

Peer tutoring is open to 5th and 6th grade students.

Who will I tutor?

You may tutor a student or students in Kindergarten through 5th grade. Teachers will review peer tutor applications and ‘hire’ tutors based on their need. Mrs. Heller will contact you if you have been ‘hired’.

What will tutors do?

Tutors will work with students on a variety of skills (ex. buddy reading, spelling practice, math facts, etc.).

When will tutoring occur?

Tutoring will take place daily before the morning announcements from approximately 8:20 - 8:40. Tutors are responsible for completing any work they may miss due to the tutoring session. Some tutors may be needed for afternoon Kindergarten, which will take place during your lunch/recess time. Indicate your preference for this option on your application.

Where will tutoring occur?

Tutoring will take place in the classroom of the student your are tutoring or in the hallway near the classroom.

How can I become a tutor?

Follow these steps to become a tutor:

1.  Review the Peer Tutor Packet with your parents/guardians. (See Mrs. Heller for a packet.)

2. Complete the Peer Tutor Application, and sign and date the Peer Tutor Contract.

3. Return both the application and contract to the Library. Please drop it off on your own time (ex. on your way in from the bus).

4. Attend a peer tutor training session, which will be held during your recess time.
