What is RtII?

RtII (Response to Instruction and Intervention) is a general education model for provideing early identification and interventions for all students at academic or behavioral risk.

Student who are identified as not meeting benchmarks receive individualized academic or behavioral support, have goals set for improving school performance, and are closely monitored to ensure that they acheive those goals. Students who are identified as meeting or exceeding benchmarks recieve instruction to reinforce, extend, and enrich their learning.

RtII resources are organized into three tiers. Tier I includes students who scored in the Benchmark range on the DIBELS assessment. Interventions are available to all students. Tier II includes students who scored in the Strategic range on the DIBELS assessment. Interventions are individualized. Tier III students scored in the Intensive range on the DIBELS assessment. Interventions are the most intensive academic supports available in the school.

Why RtII?

RtII allows educators to identify and address academic and behavioral difficulties before students fail. The goal of RtII is to improve student achievement using research-based interventions matched to the instructional need and level of the student.
