French I:  By the end of the first year of study, students should be able speak, read and write in French about many everyday situations.  They should be able to listen with comprehension to conversations with French-speaking people and other students of the language.  Students will also study the peoples and customs in the French world.

French II:   Students will continue the development of the skills already mastered in French I.  The scope of content in the text has been widened to continue improving the ability to converse, read , and write about a greater variety of topics.  At the same time, students will become better acquainted with the French-speaking world.

French III:  This course is intended for students who have a good command of the grammar and considerable competence in listening, reading, speaking and writing.  This course is  conducted mostly in French.  Students will be striving for greater proficiency in the four languages skills through a more in-depth study of grammer, various literary readings, written compositions, listening comprehension tapes, and considerable classroom conversation.

French IV:  This is continuation of French III which continues to strengthen all of the language skills.  Special emphasis is given to using and improving conversational skills.  Students will do more reading of excerpts from French literature.  They will also do more writing and indepth study of the finer grammar points.
