Misson Statement:

Port Allegany School District believes in providing innovative educational services that enable students to acquire and apply knowledge necessary to become respectful, reponsible, self-directed learners.   The School Counseling Department sees it as our mission to act as advocates for all students in developing and meeting academic, career, and personal/social goals that promotes a lifetime of success.  Through data measurement and consultation with parents, teachers and staff it will be determined what needs our students have and any resources that are available will be utilized (individual counseling, group counseling, classroom guidance lessons and consultation with outside resources)to ensure all students are supported to achieve their highest potential.

Philosophy on School Counseling:

I believe that alll students can learn and should be treated with respect and valued regardless of academic progress, race, gender, sexual orientation, political beliefs, socio-economic status, or religious affiliation.  All students should have equal access to various opportunities that education has to offer.

*It is the philosophy of the school counseling at Port Allegany Elementary School that all students, regardless of race, socioeconomic background, special needs, sexuality, and gender have equal access to an education that promotes lifelong learning and success.

*All students have the right/choice to participate in the school counseling program.

*Port Allegany's School Counseling program is comprehensive in nature that encompasses academic, personal/social and career domains.

*The School counseling program is evaluated and monitored by ongoing agreed upon goals through the Principal.

*The School counselor will abide by the professional school counseling ethics as advocated by the American School Counselor Association.
