Mrs. Newill's Fourth Grade Class

Science

This year in 4th grade, students participated in their first WEBQUEST.  Click the word WEBQUEST to take a tour of what they accomplished!  To read more about WEBQUESTS and see others that students participated in, please click on the WEBQUESTS tab located in "SCIENCE".

Another technology lesson students participated in was through VOICE THREAD.  Here students interactively worked on a subject.  Click VOICE THREAD to learn more about this technology.

Throughout the year, students are able to visit many places via polycam.  Polycam is a type of technology that we introduce to students so they are able to see specialists in the world that can answer questions and complete demonstrations.  Below are pictures of 2010-2011 fourth graders utilizing a polycam for the first time!  On the top left: Geologist from Ohio discussing VOLCANOES.  Top right: Students interacting during the podcast. Bottom: All students following directions to complete a demonstration.

A way to help teach ORGANIZATION in 4th grade, is we have students complete "reading guides".  By completing this task, students are essentially outlining the lesson they are about to learn by recording 1. vocabulary 2. setting goals for themselves and 3. becoming aware of headings through the text.  Watch a clip below while students work hard to complete this task:
