Mrs. Newill's Fourth Grade Class

Movie Maker

Every year I try to integrate different forms of technology.  This 2012 year, students were taught how to use the software for Windows Movie Maker.  Using this technology, students are directed to demonstrate their vocabulary knowledge by creating a "movie" versus taking a traditional vocabulary test.  I have also used this technology to prepare for the PSSA.  Students were given a list of 4th grade math PSSA words.

After reviewing words and practicing, students narrowed the list to their top 5 most challenging words.

As a class, we went to the computer lab, and students worked extremely hard to create a beautiful, narrated representation of the vocabulary words they had such a difficult time understanding.

Windows Movie Maker is a video creating/editing software application, included in Microsoft Windows Me, XP, and Vista. It contains features such as effects, transitions, titles/credits, audio track, timeline narration, and Auto Movie. New effects and transitions can be made and existing ones can be modified using XML code. Windows Movie Maker is also a basic audio track editing program. It can apply basic effects to audio tracks such as fade in or fade out. The audio tracks can then be exported in the form of a sound file instead of a video file.
