Guidance Counselor, Ferndale Area Elementary
Welcome to Ferndale Area Elementary, where I am the counselor to students in grades K-4 through Grade 6. I have served as the elementary school guidance counselor for the past 8 years, however, my background in the field of counseling dates back to 1983. A review of my clinical experiences range from the areas of public schools, higher education and mental health counseling in clinics and hospitals. My educational credentials include a Master's Degree in Counselor Education: Clinical Community Counseling in 1983. I returned to further my education in the Master Degree School Counseling program where I obtained a dual certification in secondary/middle and elementary school counseling in 1999, and 2000, respectively.
Educating and raising children in today’s world is a challenge. I am available to you and your child throughout the school day. I have learned so much from my teachers, students and my families here at Ferndale. None of our lives are perfect. Someone once told me, “Children need love most, when it appears they deserve it the least.” Some days as a parent, and a counselor are hard ones, but it is during those times, we must work as a team and move forward. We do not always get to manage the fun times of our children’s lives, but we also must be available when they are weak, confused or struggling academically or emotionally. My door is always open. I invite you stop in to talk with me, email or call. The window of time we have to help our children learn to grow and self manage is very small. I care very much about the children in our classrooms and will serve as a resource to make their learning successful.
As a guidance counselor, I am available to be a resource to not only your child, but to your family, our teachers and those support staff that assist us all in meeting the needs of the children in our elementary school.
