Math Teachers:

Math TV Hundreds of video clips, each demonstrating how to solve a particular math problem.  This gets as basic as adding two two-digit whole numbers and progresses through algebra, geometry, trigonometry, and calculus.  Some of the video content is connected with mainstream mathematics textbooks.  Sign up for free and you can create a playlist of your favorites.

Calculation Nation Calculation Nation® uses the power of the Web to let students challenge opponents from anywhere in the world. At the same time, students are able to challenge themselves by investigating significant mathematical content and practicing fundamental skills. The element of competition adds an extra layer of excitement. The games of Calculation Nation® are organized around content from the upper elementary and middle grades math curriculum, and were desitned by NCTM as part of their Illuminations site (a Thinkfinity resource).

A comprehensive collection of K12 math simulations organized using NCTM' s Principles and Standards.  Online manipulatives for your students!  Vist the National Library of Virtual Manipulatives.

HoodaMath A huge variety of cool math games, worksheets, tutorials, and videos that teach students mathematical concepts and allow them to develop deeper understandings about how math works.

MangaHigh This is a math games site for students in grades K-12.  Teachers create a free account and then enroll their students in each of their classes.  Student performance can be tracked...and you can compete with other schools.  Try it...you won't believe all of this is available for free.

GeoGebra Free, multi-platform mathematics software program for all levels of education that joins geometry, algebra, tables, graphing, statistics, and calculus in one easy-to-use package.  Created and supported by an international team of developers, this site includes an authoring tool for users to create images for paper worksheets, as well as interactive learning materials, with a single click.  On the website, educators also will find a wiki that contains a free pool of teaching materials to support use of the software in the classroom.  Any user can contribute and upload material, so all of the contents of the pool may be used free of charge.

Math Open Reference Manipulatives  This site has math simulations for all grade levels, K-12.

Figure This!  Developed by the NCTM, this site provides weekly math challenges.  Find intriguing titles such as Beating Heart, Grape Juice Jungle, Movie Money, Gone Fishing, and Fire Hydrant.  Each challenge contains a getting started explanation, a problem-solving hint, interesting facts, extensions, and an illustrated answer. 

Enrich Mathematics Posters On this site there is a poster for each month dating back to February 2005. The posters display a mathematics "trick" or challenge question. Teachers can download and print any of the posters in the collection. Each poster in the collection is linked to a problem page that contains notes for teachers using the posters.

Ambleweb  Many of the games on this site have been created by or with children.  This site works particularly well in classroom demonstrations.  For example, the Decifractator sports a simple interface for converting fractions to decimals. 

Cyberchase Games Central  Few math-oriented sites are more fun than Cyberchase.  This is one place where students will be eager to spend time investigating concepts and practicing skills.  Among the dozens of games, the Cyber-Pattern Player is a particulaly addictive introduction to pattern recognition and algegraic thinking.

Interactivate  Over one hundred interactive, engaging activities to support student discovery and mastery of geometry, number and operations, algebra, probability, and statistics concepts.  Simulations are predominantly simple Java Applets, but they are supported by a range of lesson plans, standards, discussions, tools, and even a math dictionary.  This site has some of the most effective hands-on tools on the Internet.

Internet School Library Media Center's Mathematics in the Middle School provides an extensive list of online resources for creative teaching in mathematics.

The R Project for Statistical Computing R is an integrated suite of software facilities for data manipulation, calculation and graphical display.  The software is open source and is free for downloading.  See your building's Tech Assistant for assistance with the download.

Math Trails This is one of the most popular ways of taking mathematics education outside of the classroom.  This site includes ideas for developing a math trail where students work together to identify mathematical principles, write original math problems, and share their work both in print and online.

Math Exercises Students can do exercises here on pre-algebra, algebra, geometry, trigonometry, arithmetic, decimals, fractions, and so on...  Teachers can monitor students' progress, as well.

Math 1-2-3 X-Y-Z Flash-based interactives for teaching students mathematical concepts using an interactive whiteboard or Mobi.  Covers all math topics from basic skills through to Calculus.

Mathematical Fiction  This is a HUGE list of books that have mathematical themes.  Be careful...the list includes difficult texts and adult books (eg. The DaVinci Code) and books more appropriate for high school or college math courses (eg. The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time), but it also includes picture books, Newbery-Award winners, and books for young adults.  Links are provided to brief descriptions and possible uses in the classroom.

National Security Agency: Collected Math Units  Teachers created these quality math units that are linked to NCTM standards.  The site includes elementary, middle school, and high school units.  Middle School units include a wealth of ideas on these topics: pre-algebra; algebra; graphing; statistics; geometry.

Math is Fun Designed by Math enthusiast Rod Pierce, this interactive site offers useful manipulatives for reviewing basic math skills.  Have your class race the clock to give the correct change in Money Master or investigate the connection between math and art with Symmetry Artist.  If Internet access is limited, this site comes to the rescue with printable worksheets, intriguing online or printed puzzles, and quizzes.

PBS Mathline  Looking for a new way to introduce students to box-and-whisker plots?  Tired of the same old approach to decimals?  The videos at Mathline can be a source of inspiration!  Watch a diverse group of educators teach math lessons to actual students in actual classrooms.  To get started, choose a math category and/or your grade level, then click GO.

Inside Mathematics a professional resource for educators passionate about improving students' mathematics learning and performance. This site features classroom examples of innovative teaching methods and insights into student learning, tools for mathematics instruction that teachers can use immediately, and video tours of the ideas and materials on the site.

Purple Math  Award-winning, comprehensive site for grades 6-12, this site contains algebra tutorials for students who need extra help!  Preliminary Topics reviews absolute value, negative numbers, and number properties.  Beginning Algebra covers the basic rules of exponents, slope and graphing, polynomials, and inequalities.  Intermediate Topics introduces quadratic equations, symmetry, and function transformations.  Advanced Algebra presents inverse functions, logarithms, and rational expressions.  There's also a study skills survey and links to quizzes and worksheets.

Radical Math  Online resource helps teachers to integrate social and economic justice into math curriculum. 

Fun Mathematics Lessons No lesson plans here...just instruction directed toward students with explanations, directions, and problem solving.  Students should be able to sit down at a computer and understand the concepts being presented!

Math.com  Supplies reviews and quizzes, as well as a worksheet generator.

Multiplication.com Multiplication games, tips, and techniques used by master teachers.

AAA Math Designed for grades K-8, this comprehensive math resource contains hundreds of pages of basic math skills and randomly-created interactive practice activities.

Ask Dr. Math  This is a huge resource of answers to math questions for elementary to college students. If you have a question not covered, you can ask Dr. Math!

Create A Graph Gives examples of graphs of all kinds.  Then, select a type of graph and start creating your own, which can be downloaded and printed.

Brain Teasers  Brain Teasers presents a weekly word problem for 3 grade ranges; answers are given the following week. A section with past 'teasers' is also available.

Escape from Knab You've won a one-way ticket to the Planet Knab, but once you're there, you find that it isn't what you thought it would be. Get a good job, make wise financial decisions, and save enough to pay for the next rocket ship to Earth, or you might just be stuck on Knab forever!

Figure This!  Math Challenges  Which shape holds the most popcorn? Can you combine the stamps to make $1.77? These are just a couple of the problems you can ponder in this attractively designed collection of real-world math challenges. Updated regularly; includes resources for parents.

Illuminations  Presents 100 activities with interactive applets for every grade level.  Especially interesting are the Factor Game and Paper Pool, but you're sure to find your own favorites.  Most activities are supported by in-depth lesson plans and standards correlations.

Moneyopolis  Are your students ready to help an alien in distress? Xerbie has traveled to Moneyopolis® to learn how to manage his money. But as luck would have it, his spaceship broke. To play this fun and challenging game, they'll need to visit each building of Moneyopolis and show off ytheir math and money skills. Every section they complete will earn Xerbie another part to fix his spaceship and help him get home.

Math in Daily Life Interactives  Shows how math is used everyday through examples dealing with savings and credit, population growth, cooking, and other common situations, such as "Leasing or Buying a Car: Which is Best for You?"

Rick's Math Web  Pre-kindergarden to high school students looking for a better understanding of math will find over 4,750 problems to help them improve their skills. Problems can be printed in worksheet form and tips and tricks are included for each area of study.

Plane Math Activities  Airplanes and flight are the subjects of this high-flying math site. Solve word problems, learn how kites stay up in the air, watch Shockwave animations to learn about people like Amelia Earhart, and even design your own airplane.
