Lesson for the Second Quarter:
Kindergarten: Learning about library citizenship, proper book care, and use of the shelf markers. Identifying parts of a book.
1st Grade: Identifying important parts of a book. Locating different types of books. Distinquishing between ficiton and nonfiction. Alphabetizing and sorting.
2nd Grade: Location of fiction and nonfiction books and their arrangement on the shelves. Understanding the purose of the Title Page and Table of Contents. Using the books' call number.
3rd Grade: Review using Table of Contents. Arranging fiction books in alphabetical order by author's last name. Practice locating specific fiction books by using the book's call number. Identifying ficiton and nonfiction books.
4th Grade: Continued arrangement of fiction books. Set up races to locate a specific fiction book by its call number. Demonstrate nonfiction arrangement and how they differ from the fiction arrangement. Identify biographies.
5th Grade: Identify the type of book by the book's call number. Orientation of the Dewey Decimal Classification (DDC). Use the school's online catalog system DESTINY to get information about a book's location.
6th Grade: Will complete creating their "All About Me" power point presentations in the computer lab. Review of the Dewey Decimal Classification and locating books by the call numbers.
7th Grade: Finalizing power points presentations. Continuing with the Author tasks. Search techniques using boolean operators.
8th Grade: Begin search techniques using the boolean operators to locate specific information. Preparing the student to be more more precise in websites for research.
