Seventh and Eighth Grade Language Arts: Mr. Kevin Kolodziejski

Seventh Grade Language Arts Curriculum

Thank you for visiting our class Website. If you have any questions about our program, please don't hesitate to contact me.  Below is a copy of the paper copy of the curriculum distributed to all students on the first day of class.

The language arts program in seventh grade is a combination of two previously separate classes, reading and English.  Because of the similarities between the two, students tend to recognize the correlations and improve more in both areas when they are taught together.  Therefore, seventh grade students will study language arts two periods each day with the same teacher.

The language arts curriculum focuses on vocabulary development, reading comprehension, literature skills, grammar skills, and writing in a variety of formats.  By doing these, it is hoped that a secondary benefit, a refinement of the thought process, naturally occurs.

Grades will be based on homework, tests, writings, projects, and presentations.  The grading system is based on a total-points system, with most tests counting at least 100 points and quizzes and selected homework assignments counting 10 to 50.  Spot-checked homework assignments are worth five points each and can not be made up since the correct answers are given immediately afterwards.  In case of absence, it is the student's responsibility to request any missed work.  When the missed work is a spot-checked assignment, an alternative assignment or a “no score” will be given.

During a 25-to-28 day designated time frame, students are expected to read after school for a minimum of 30 minutes a night on 15 different occasions.

Eighth Grade Language Arts Curriculum

The language arts curriculum for 8-A and 8-B focuses on vocabulary development, reading comprehension, literature skills, grammar skills, and writing in a variety of formats.  By doing these, it is hoped that a secondary benefit, a refinement of the thought process -- the goal of all schooling -- naturally occurs.
