Termination of Marriage
"Tis better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all."
-Alfred Lord Tennyson, English poet
During this unit of Family Living, we will be looking at ways in which marriages are terminated, or ended. For many of us, this will be a topic that hits a little too close to home. The goal with this chapter is not to bring up and remind you of bad memories, but rather to inform you of the legalities involved with ending a marriage. Much like we did with the topic of marriage, we will be exploring divorce laws in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, while discussing the effect that divorce has on children and families.
At the end of this one-and-a-half week chapter, you will be able to answer the following essential questions completely and confidently.
How do the different ways of terminating a marriage compare to one another?
What are the pros and cons of divorce?
How has the divorce rate changed in our country? How does it compare to other countries?
How can marriages be legally terminated?
What are the characteristics of the different stages and types of divorce?
What factors influence divorce in Pennsylvania?
What defenses can people use in favor of and against divorce?
What are the possible terms and results of divorce?
