The Center on the Social and Emotional Foundations for Early Learning (CSEFEL) is focused on promoting the social emotional development and school readiness of young children birth to age 5.  CSEFEL is a national resource center funded by the Office of Head Start and Child Care Bureau for disseminating research and evidence-based practices to early childhood programs across the country.

CSEFEL is a five-year project designed to strengthen the capacity of Head Start and child care programs to improve the social and emotional outcomes of young children.

The Center will develop training and technical assistance (T/TA) materials that reflect evidence-based practices for promoting children’s social and emotional development and preventing challenging behaviors.  The Center will then work with professional organizations and Head Start and Child Care T/TA providers to ensure the use of the evidence-based practices in local demonstration sites.

CSEFEL is located at Vanderbilt University under the direction of Dr. Mary Louis Hemmeter.
