 Welcome Parents & Students!

My name is Ms. Davis. I am going to be your 8th grade reading teacher for the 2011-2012 school year. I am very excited about becoming a new member of The Mathematics, Civics and Sciences Charter School family. We have a lot to offer each other this school year; I hope that you will be able to learn from me, and I will be able to learn from you.

With a bachelor’s degree in Broadcast Journalism, I have been able to use my real world work experience as a writer into the classroom which helps to develop a creative educational atmosphere. Upon completing a teaching certificate internship program for secondary English education at Delaware Valley College, I became an English teacher in Shenyang, China at the Northeast Yucai Bilingual School for the 2010-2011 school year. I taught twenty-one 7th and 8th grade English classes, directed the English Culture Festival and directed the school’s first percussion ensemble.

Since 2007, I have been traveling around the world learning about other cultures and customs. I have traveled to Bermuda, Ghana, Australia, Mexico, Japan, South Korea and China. I incorporate these international experiences into my lessons exposing my students to ideas they may not have had an opportunity to explore otherwise.  I have also published 78 articles in a newspaper and an article about African-American cultural identity in the Breakdowns and Breakthroughs Academic Journal.

In addition to teaching, I am also beginning my 6th year working at NJ101.5, a New Jersey based radio station. I manage the college interns and promote the station on weekends.

If you have any questions about what I have done or where I have traveled, do not hesitate to ask.
