PE Overview

Dear Parent and/or Guardian:

My name is Ted Rakar. I will be your son or daughter's physical education teacher this year. In this letter I want to briefly describe the physical education program at Jackson Elementary School and what your child can expect to learn over the next few
years.

The physical education program at Jackson Elementary is designed to help our students develop the physical competence that leads to confidence and participation in physical activity for a lifetime. My goal is to help children find a variety of ways to enjoy being physically active so that they will be able to get all of the physical, emotional, intellectual and social benefits that come to someone who is physically active.

Physical Education Class

  • Students have PE twice a week for 45 minutes each class
  • Students are required to wear clothing suitable for gym to school on the days that they attend physical education class.  Please check with your child on gym days to make sure she or he wears clothing that permits freedom of movement.  Wearing inappropriate clothing may cause your child to be excluded from class.
  • Please send a note from a parent, guardian or physician when your child is to be excused from physical education class.

Suitable clothing is defined as follows:

  • Supportive sneakers without heels or platform soles. (No sandals, flip flops, crocs, open toed shoes, boots, or backless shoes)
  • Long pants, shorts, and skorts. (Dresses and skirts are not permitted)

As an educator I recognize that children are at different developmental levels with a variety of needs and interests. For this reason, I attempt to provide all students with cooperative experiences that are both beneficial and enjoyable. Each lesson is also adjusted to take into account the wide range of skill and fitness levels
that characterizes children in elementary school.

I am very proud of the physical education program at Jackson Elementary School and look forward to being your child's physical education teacher.
If you have any further questions about the PE program, please feel free contact me at trakar@cencam.org or call the school at (814) 749-8421.

Sincerely,

Ted Rakar
