Each student will have the opportunity to participate in physical and life long activities that can be enjoyed now and in the future.  How well you do in this class starts with you. I will challenge you in this class both physically and mentally, if you just want to get by that is up to you. You will make the choices that will determine your grade.

Course Overview:  The Wellness 9 Course is designed to promote regular physical activity so students can maintain an active and healthy lifestyle throughout their lives.  The activities students will be engaged in will include units involving cooperative and competitive games, team sports, small games, outdoor leisure activities, and fitness testing.

This course should engage students in positive social behaviors such as teamwork, cooperation, and enthusiasm while focusing on skill building. Individuals will be responsible for completing the Fitness Gram Fitness as well as the Presidential Fitness Test. Classroom Rules:

The student is required to dress out everyday unless told otherwise by your instructor. Failure to do so will result in loss of points each time. This is the number one reason people fail Wellness/Gym! There is no uniform; however students are required to wear tennis shoes, shorts, and a t-shirt. Sleeveless shirts or tank tops are not permitted! All shorts are to be worn on the waist at all times, not rolled up or hanging off your hips.  Failure to comply with this rule will result in loss of points and appropriate disciplinary action.  Students must change clothes for Physical Education class. Locks and lockers will be assigned to each student the first week of class.

To be excused from participation, students must have a parent or doctor’s excuse. If you are sick or have a medical condition go to the nurse before coming into class. Not participating in the day’s activity or standing around will be considered no participation for that day, and points will be deducted.  Parent notes are not to be written excusing the student for more than one day.   Students are not permitted to have a parents note for more than two classes in a row. If student has a doctors note excusing them for a long period of time or has had a large amount of parent notes during a given quarter, the teacher will require the student to do written work in order to get a grade for wellness. Written work is not optional and failure to do work will result in the student failing wellness.

Be on Time! Being late to class will result in a loss of points. Each student is allotted 5 minutes from the time the late bell rings to be dressed and be ready to go to the gym.  Students will be assigned a locker and combination.  If the student’s lock is lost or damaged the student is responsible to pay to replace it.  Rules and procedures for dressing out will be gone over the first week of class.  After being dismissed to the gym students are to go directly to their squad lines.

No electronic devices- cell phones, ipods, cameras, game systems of any kind. The code of conduct policy is in effect here and they will be taken! Foul language is not acceptable, if you have a foul mouth you will be asked to leave the gym.

Safety is the number one priority of the Wellness staff. Keep your hands to yourself. Fighting or inappropriate horseplay of any kind will not be tolerated and you will be escorted from the gym accordingly. Also food and drink of any kind will not be permitted in the gym.

Attitude, effort, and accountability are of the utmost importance. Always display a good attitude, work hard, and be accountable for yourself, and your school.
