Vocal Music, Piano, and Drama

Procedures and Expectations

SEATING:

So we can take accurate attendance and so your teachers can better remember your names, please sit in the seat according to the seating chart.  Your seat can only be changed by the teacher at his discretion without explanation.

BATHROOMS:

Please sign OUT & IN using the binder by the door.  The bathroom to be used is the one on this floor just around the corner.  Exit the right Piano Lab double doors and make a right then left.  No Piano Class students are permitted to go to other bathrooms in the school during piano class.  Please try to use the bathroom on your way here.

EMERGENCY EXITS:

In the case of a fire drill/emergency, we are to exit the double doors at the right of the piano lab, make a right, left, then right and exit under the closest stairwell.  In the case of severe weather, we will remain in the piano lab where there are no outside windows.  Do not open the side emergency door for any reason (even if someone knocks).  There is a camera and alarm on that door.

SAFETY:

  1. There are miles of electrical wires in this room and these pianos are electric pianos.  Tell the teacher immediately if there are any exposed wires or safety concerns in the classroom or hallways.
  2. Stay seated at your piano.  Frequently, students trip over wires or power strips because they are out of their seat during class.
  3. The main office number and nurse’s office number is near the phone.  Please call if there is an emergency and the teacher is not able to call.  In the event the phones are not working, quickly go to the nearest classroom and get another teacher’s help.
  4. Please inform the teacher of any and all situations involving violence, rumors, fights, etc.
  5. Don't open floor panels.
  6. Ask the teacher for help, especially with electrical equipment.

FOOD and DRINKS:

For obvious reasons, you can’t place drinks on top of the piano.  If your drink has a lid on it, fine.  (Keep in mind you can’t have drinks in the hallways).  No lid, no drink.  Please don’t eat over the pianos.  Crumbs that fall in between the keys mess up the contact leads that allow the keys to make sound.

LOCKERS: (Period 8 Only!)

You will be assigned a locker the first few days of class. It is your responsibility to report to your 8th period teacher any vandalism or damage to your locker.  It will be inspected each nine weeks.  Please see the teacher if there is an issue.  We will take care of it for you.

BHS MUSIC DEPARTMENT CREED

“RESPECT IS THE CONERSTONE

OF ALL OF OUR INTERACTIONS AND BEHAVIORS.

WE ACKNOWLEDGE THE DIGNITY AND

WORTH OF ONE ANOTHER AND STRIVE NEVER

TO DIMINISH ANOTHER BY OUR CONDUCT OR OUR ATTITUDES!”

  1. I expect that you will treat all headphones and computer equipment with the utmost care.  If you are being careless and you drop or break a piece of equipment, you will be responsible to pay for the repair or replacement of that item.  I recommend bringing your own headphones or earphones.  You can easily plug into the system on your own.
  2. I expect that you will respectful at all times- to your teacher, your classmates, and to the classroom.
  3. I expect that you will speak with me AFTER or BEFORE class if there is an issue.  I will try to do the same with you.
  4. You can be graded at any time for any activity in this class.  I expect that you will try your hardest without any frustration toward the teacher.  We can seem rather impatient at times.  This is my passion and I will simply push you to learn.
  5. Lateness crushes your grade.  More than 3 per nine weeks, BIG TROUBLE!

BEHAVIOR MONITORING

In the grade book, you will see that I type abbreviated comments.  Let me know if you have any questions about what they mean.

THERE'S ALWAYS A WAY OUT!

     1.  Bad Day Policy- let me know if something’s going on; don’t feel well; “Life stinks!”

Say Two words: "BAD DAY!"  Send me an email. Whisper it as you walk by. Write it on a napkin!  SOMETHING!

     2.  Go For A Walk- if too angry, GO!  I'll live.

     3.  Talk/Argue after class/school.  I’ll try to do the same.  I'm not perfect either!

     4.  Laugh about it!  Crack a joke.  Ease up.  Don’t take it so seriously.  You have to be school-appropriate.  Yep.

     5.  TALK TO ME!  If there’s something I’m doing that gets under your skin, TALK TO ME.  (You know I’ll be telling you!)  If something’s going on at home and you can’t keep up, TALK TO ME!  Send me an email.
