Hello Students and Parents,
My name is Marianne Wood and I'm happily employed as the Bear Creek Community Charter School's Middle School Reading/Language Arts teacher. This is my fifth year at Bear Creek and my nineth year teaching. Each year brings new students and new challenges, and this year is no different.
Before moving to Pennsylvania in 2007, I taught in New Jersey for four years. I taught fourth grade for 2 years and 7th grade reading/writing for 2 years. Both positions were wonderful experiences that taught me the importance of classroom mangament, organization and planning. Although fourth grade wasn't my favorite, those students taught me that just about anything could be turned in a game or a dance or a rhyme. The seventh graders showed me that classroom rules must first be followed by me as an example to my students, then I can expect the students to follow them.
Many of the creative projects I do at Bear Creek were birthed teaching in New Jersey. I am excited to do the children's story project with my 8th grade class this spring. The seventh graders will get to write mysteries in January or February. I also have a great variety of reading pieces I will be doing including short stories, novels, poetry and non-fiction. 7th and 8th grade students will also be doing some grammar and mechanics and working on essays.
On a personal note, I am a mommy to a beautiful girl named Valarie Anne. She turned one in May and is running and screaming like toddlers should. She keeps my husband and I busy and we are greatly enjoying the adventure of parenthood. I also have two dogs: a beagle named Copper and a min-pin named Rocket. They are great fun and very loyal friends to Valarie, especially when she has a snack to share. I enjoy reading and writing in my spare time, when I have some!
If you have any questions about my class, please contact me. I will get back to you usually by the end of the school day or the following day. You can email me (marianne.wood@bearcreekschool.com) or leave me a voice message, 570-820-4070, extention 430.
Here's to a great 2011 -2012 year!
