"AP" stands for Advanced Placement. This is the label given to those classes that College Board has approved and determined meet criteria that far exceeds high school curriculm and mirrors the expectations and requirments in college. The status of "AP" is clearly labelled on a student's transcripts and is evaluated at a higher quality point system when determining a students' grade point average.
Students are eligible to take up to 13 AP courses offered at LAHS if they meet the prerequisistes established within the course of study book. The classes are AP Pre Calculus, AP Calculus AB, AP Caluculus BC, AP Statistics, and AP English Seminar, AP Literature and Composition, AP Psychology, AP Chemistry, AP Biology, AP US Government & Politics, AP US History, AP Physics C: Mechanics, AP Business w/Personal Finance.
In order for students to earn college credits by taking an AP class, each student will need to take a test designed and scored by College Board.
It is important to determine if AP testing is recognized by the post secondary institution a student is planning on attending and what score a student must receive. It is the student's responsibitly to obtain this information. Students receive a score ranging from 1 to 5. One is lowest score and five is the highest score.
