Each day students begin their day in my class by stating the date, the day, and the weather. This may seem elementary, but repetition is crucial in language learning.  Students write in Spanish describing/writing dialogues/short stories about incredible pictures that the world language department shares (i.e. a lizard with its tongue stretched out with a bug attached, a monkey hugging a dove, a boy and a UFO.) Students who are late to class miss out on the points given for the writing samples. 

As a closing activity, students are told a story in Spanish (a very short story) which I act out (ridiculous as it sounds.) Students have some sort of speaking and writing response. It is my goal that Spanish 1 students will be able to talk about the things that they like and dislike, the activities that they do, their families and describe things around them, also to be able to complain and tell other people to do chores around the house!

Before moving on to Spanish 2 students should be able to read and write about said topics and feel comfortable speaking as well.
