What school-wide forms of assessments are used?
Running Records
Running records are a form of assessment where teachers are able to listen to students reading and record their reading behaviors. The students are reading unfamiliar books so that we have a better idea of what strategies the child is using. This helps guide our instruction and allows the classroom teacher to make appropriate book choices.
Running records are administered 3-4 times a year. Your child may not be assessed each time depending on his/her reading level.
The Title I reading teachers along with the classroom teachers are responsible for administering the running record assessments to all students in kindergarten through fifth grade.
DIBELS
DIBELS (Dynamic Indicators of Basic Early Literacy Skills) is a standardized test to measure a student’s early literacy skills. The test is given individually three times during the year. These are short, one minute tests that monitor your child’s reading skills.
DIBELS includes:
Letter Naming Fluency measures how many letters your child can identify in one minute.
