 Text Rendering Technology Lab:

  1. Open a word document. Write your name, block number, date, and title "Pythagorean Word Problems". Center your title.
  2. Section One: Cut and copy one of the word problems below into a Word document.Underline the most important sentence. Highlight the most important word.
  3. Section Two: Write down your formula and show all the steps out line by line of how to complete the problem.
  4. Section Three: Write an explanation for each line you made in Section 2. he trick you cannot use the numbers to explain. You need to use math vocabulary such as legs, hyponetuse, theorem, square root, etc.
  5. Print out and hand in for credit.

Sample Word Problems:

1. To get from point A to point B you must avoid walking through a pond.  To avoid the pond, you must walk 34 meters south and 41 meters east.  How many meters would be saved if it were possible to walk through the pond? 

 

2. Markeda's TV screen is 20 inches long. If the diagonal measures 25 inches, how long is the width of Markeda's TV?

 

3. 

Two joggers run 12 miles south and then 7 miles east.  What is their diagonal distance?

 4. 

A baseball diamond is a square with sides of 27.4 meters.  What is the shortest distance, to the nearest tenth of a meter, between home plate and second base?

 

5.  Shane's rectangular basement measures 18 feet long and 30 feet wide. He wants to run a cable diagonally across the room above the ceiling panels. How many feet of cable does he need?
